The ad hoc memorial for Carla revealed many facets of Carla's life, like her passion for juvenilte justice and her run for office. In a stroke of genius, her friends display Carla's books and CDs for everyone to take and cherish. Those of us from Coloradans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty will honor Carla with the Lifetime Achievement award for 2017 when we decide exactly when and whether to hold our Abolitionist of the Year Dinner as planned on July 27 as planned, or postpone the dinner until the fall. She was courageous, visionary, and humane in her calm persistence supporting this magnificent and meaningful cause. I will always remember her passion and kindness. Carla was such a presence. She was so strong and so vigorously unique. She founded our Drinking Liberally chapter over 10 years ago and while it was a tiny group for years, she kept at it and made it a huge success. I will miss her. We will miss her.

Carla was such a loving person--always taking her time to support us in our death penalty hearings and to care for our clients and their families. The Robert Ray team will really miss her. May the memories be a blessing to her loved ones.

Carla brought much peace and hope to our family as we sat through the death penalty trial of our son, James Holmes. She sat with us during lunch break many times and we were awed by her energy, kindness, dedication, intelligence, humor and perseverance.
